Eco Yarn
The Business Plan researches setting up the UK’s first closed loop textile recycling business in which waste textiles are broken down into fibre form to be re-spun into eco yarn.
It investigates the current state of the UK’s waste recycling market and identifies the absence of waste textile recycling services available to the UK’s textile industry and large corporations who dispose of waste textiles.
The plan identifies how the UK and government waste reduction schemes would benefit environmentally and financially from closed loop textile recycling in comparison to waste disposal shows the reduction in environmental impacts in comparison to the production of yarn from recycled fibres as appose to the production of yarn from virgin fibres and the maximum capacity of textile waste the business will divert from landfill annually.
The project was inspired by the success of existing closed loop textile recycling businesses overseas. Jimtex Yarns, Repreve, and ECO CIRCLE FIBERS are all closed loop textile recycling company's will successfully divert thousands of tonnes of textile waste from landfill and incineration annually and the process is far less energy intensive than that of yarn production from virgin fibres.
The UK needs to take action on it waste problem and Fabric 2 Fibre could bring closed loop textile recycling into the UK and divert thousands of tonnes of textiles from the waste stream.
I want to go into fashion buying after university, it is a great industry to get into and has a great balance of fashion and business.
