Independent Project

Sui Generis

Sui Generis is a luxury shoe customisation service, as a concession within the Selfridges department store in London. The Sui Generis service is an extremely personalised one, where the designer and client build a relationship during the customisation process. The service consists of a one on one meeting with well trained staff to discuss the requirements of the customer. After choosing an existing shoe base the customer can choose the leather, heel type, type of sole as well as any embroidery, embellishments.

Sui Generis offers a truly unique service, with individuality at the heart of the concept. Fashion is no longer about religiously following the trends set on the catwalks by the big fashion labels. Women are attracted to designers not everyone has heard of, that doesn’t scream designer and isn’t defined by a season.

Inspiration for project

Vogue’s concept “More Dash Than Cash” was one of the main inspirations for Sui Generis.

“More Dash than Cash is based on the belief that today the individual inside the clothes is much more important than the statement made by her outward appearance.”

Style is part of a personality and is unique to each person, like every other trait; this can be shown through a person’s clothing. The options for personal appearance have never been so diverse, as there are no definitive guidelines to fashion, and nothing to stop you from improvising. The key to fashion is to be open-minded.
